this is me. melissa gail.
The first thing that I asked myself when starting this blog was, what is my overall purpose? What is my mission statement? I felt like having a purpose for blogging was absolutely necessary. Here is my story.
So many people define their identities by what they do for a living. And when I say, "what they do for a living," I mean their jobs. But this is not how I want to define myself.
I spent almost 9 years in the business world -- starting as a receptionist and working my way up to director of (creative) marketing of a CPA firm. I also lived in NYC for 2 years and worked as the executive assistant to the president of an international consulting firm. I was successful in these positions and I was good at what I did. But it was not enough. Moving back to Rochester, NY allowed me an opportunity to follow my heart and pursue another bachelor's in literature and hopefully soon, a PhD. So that's what I'm doing now.
I will have to get another "real" job soon. But I refuse to let this define who I am. There is more to what I do for a living than my job. So here is my blog mission statement, so to speak. This blog is an attempt to describe who I am by identifying and writing about the things that really matter to me -- by what I do while living, not what I do for a living.
